GIS Manager

Based in Farnborough

General Description

The GIS Manager will be highly proficient in the field of GIS, in order to support geo-consultancy services and other areas of company business.

The main objectives for the role will be to provide line management for GIS technical and GIS analyst staff; to provide senior GI consultancy services; to perform spatial data modelling and solution design; and to support in the implementation and management of GIS services.

This will require:

•Staff management skills
•Strong skills and experience of geo-information management and specific knowledge and understanding of the INSPIRE directive
•Advanced GIS skills and experience in the fields of hosting, databases, GIS applications and services
•Strong interpersonal skills with ability to engage with all levels of staff on technical and non-technical matters

Main Responsibilities / Duties

• Line management for GIS technical and GIS analyst staff
• Provide senior GI consultancy services in line with targets set by Geo-Consultancy Manager
• Be responsible for and carry out technical project work within a project framework for Geo-Consultancy
• Provide expertise in Geographic Information Systems for applications within “The Company”
• Maintain awareness of and develop GIS technologies and techniques relevant to the Geo-Consultancy Group, with special relevance to “The Company”’s future position within the industry
• Manage and carry out research and development assignments in support of the Group’s objectives
• Provide technical bid support within the Geo-Consultancy Group
• Monitor new technologies and propose investments where necessary for the company to remain competitive
• Actively promote quality management within the Group and work within the scope and guidelines of “The Company”’s Business Management System

Skills Required

•At least 5 years experience in a senior GIS role within a commercial environment; knowledge and experience of the government sector would be an advantage
•Experience and knowledge of geo-information management and GIS data modelling / architecture
•Specific knowledge and experience of the INSPIRE directive and a wider understanding of GIS within the context of a spatial data infrastructure
•Team and line management experience
•Demonstrable experience and advanced level usage of GIS applications and services
•Specific knowledge of database management systems e.g. Oracle, SQL Server, PostGIS for managing spatial data
•High level of awareness and understanding of OGC standards within a GIS environment and experience in their application, configuration and deployment
•Experience of developing or leading GIS development projects would be an advantage
•Project management experience would be an advantage
•Proven track record of successful Customer Liaison
•A Masters degree in relevant subject or equivalent experience/training
•Self-motivating and be able to work as part of a team as well as working independently
