Job Title: SATURN Project Manager

span class="style2">Atkins Transport Planning and Management covers all aspects of transport planning from policy research and strategic appraisal through to development assessment and traffic engineering. Atkins markets, supports and continues to develop the SATURN suite of highway network modelling software. SATURN has developed over many years to become the world leader in equilibrium-based congested highway assignment modelling. We currently have more than 300 users world-wide with a very strong and active user-base in the UK. In partnership with Dr Dirck Van Vliet and the Institute for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds, we have been continually developing and improving the software package to meet the needs of our users. Recent developments include stronger links to GIS and sophisticated technical enhancements such as Origin Based Assignment (OBA) and dual core processing to reduce run times. The Opportunity The SATURN Project Manager will have overall technical and financial responsibility for the SATURN support and development project. Based in Atkins Epsom or London office, you would be working closely with our SATURN partners to co-ordinate development, marketing activities and training. This role also has considerable people management responsibilities so you should have strong leadership and motivation skills as well.

Responsibilities

To lead and manage the SATURN development and product support team
Identify, prioritise and implement development priorities in response to SATURN users
Continually liaise with key stakeholders - including Department for Transport, Highways Agency and Transport for London for example ? to ensure that SATURN continues to be the market-leader in equilibrium-based highway modelling in the UK
Working with other Atkins technical specialists, further develop and extend SATURN's integration with microsimulation and GIS-based software packages and applications
Provide technical training and support to SATURN users worldwide
Run the successful SATURN Annual User Group Meetings
Promote and influence the SATURN best practice in the UK and overseas markets
Act as advisor to a wide-range of modelling projects undertaken by the Atkins Transport Planning business, including contributing to business development activities related to modelling
Contribute to the development and implementation of Atkins' wider modelling and analysis strategy
Promote Atkins transport modelling capability in the wider transport planning industry including attendance at conferences, presentation of technical papers and engagement with clients

The Individual
You should have strong leadership and managerial qualities, with proven team management and communication skills, and the ability to motivate and mentor staff accordingly.Essential Requirements The following attributes are essential requirements for the role:

Sufficient and relevant post-graduate experience in transport planning, with a demonstrable track record in: highway modelling; and programming, preferably in a range of languages but including Salford FTN77/95
Experience in the practical application of SATURN in the UK and overseas
Experience in technical and financial management of projects
Experience in dealing with transport planning clients and customers
Degree in transport related subject, numeric subject or equivalent

Desirable RequirementsPriority will be given to candidates with (in-depth knowledge of / experience in) several of the following:

Practical application of GIS in the field of transport modelling
Broad technical transport planning background covering policy, public transport planning, modelling and appraisal
Proven track record in software programming / development
Web-based development skills would be advantageous
Transport related MSc (or PhD)
